Afro- hair discrimination within the media Within the media

Within the media, the way Afro hair is presented does a lot for society as what people consume can play a great part in how they treat other people around them.

Within the media, films have made a great effort to be much more inclusive to black men and women and depict them accurately.

Disney announced Halle Bailey was going to be playing Ariel in the upcoming movie 'The Little Mermaid' and this created a split within the public. Many people loved the inclusive although others responded with racism. One of the most prominent taling points was what her hair is going to look like as the American singer and actress is commonly known with her gorgeous locks. Two months ago,

On the 13th of March the official trailer was released. Members of the black community from little children to grown adults are absolutely stunned with her Ariel is depicted in this live action movie.

Some fans were still upset that her hair appeared to be a darker hue to Ariel in the cartoons. But it appearing this color is much for realistic and considers where the mermaid resides. The actor claims how incorporating locks into the mermaids character was 'really special' to her and many black fans especially with locs felt the same.

Representation like this is amazing and needed more frequently to encourage more black women to be proud of their hair and be stepping stones to end Afro hair discrimination.
